all about fine tuning. ever wonder why chips dont work on the cherokee? because from the factory they came with a really efficient tune to get the most horsepower and torque out of the motor.

I have not heard of the '96 and newer models having a different cam, but I believe it was '94 that Chrysler introduced the 4.0L High Output model which had more horsepower and torque than the previous models. I don't remember what year it was, but at some point they also changed the intake manifold to be more efficient. I haven't previously heard of the '96 and up models having more horsepower or torque than other models either but it may be true. I believe all of the models in between the release of the high output model and the intake manifold upgrade had the same horsepower and torque. Maybe the never models were just able to apply the power to the ground better than previous models.

91 was the first year of the HO motors. in 00 they changed the intake manifold and went to the crappy 0331 heads.
other than some injector changes they all stayed pretty much the same
