It will be very slow/power-lacking and mileage will suck. Also, you will be overworking your tranny. It can be done, but IMHO, it is best to wait until you can regear.

X 2 on what Jeep450r said above....and when you do re-gear, you will want to go to 4.56 for 33s.

Well maybe I'm the only one but I'm runnin 33's and stock everything(including gutless V6) and I didnt notice a single difference. Gas mileage was cut slightly but thats just tire size.

I'm running stock gears with 33's in my 98 XJ and it's not terrible.
Not really much difference in power and my gas mileage is around 15 mpg

Well if its anything like when I upgraded to 31's I actually get noticably better highway mileage, but it had a little less power right off the line, and slightly worse mileage around town. I have a friend who has 35's on stock 3.73 gears in a wrangler with a standard, and while he said its piggy on the road, he has enough power to crawl in 4lo just fine.

I have 33's and 3.55's too. It absolutely sucks, IMHO. The power is just not there like when it was on 30's, and the trans is never satisfied in rides with many hills, so leaving it in 3 is usually what I do. Offroad, it's just a bit too fast for my taste even in 4Lo. 4.56s would definitely make it a ton better.

As for mileage, between the 33's and stock gears I get about 13-15 MPG, and maybe see 16 when on the highway really babying it.

True dat. And the main thing is not how terrible it feels, or how bad gas mileage is, but how your auto tranny is constantly shifting and struggling or how bad you are riding your clutch in a manual.

31s are good for stock gears, and maybe even 32s, but not 33s. Nothing wrong w/rollin 31s if you don't want to mess w/all the gearing crap.

He means 4.56, not 3.56. Stock autos have 3.55
