question about gears. Mine is 87 5 spd manual BA 10/5 trans. D35 rear and D30 front.

What is most likely the stock gears? Granny 1st sucks! lol

I'm running 33's with stock gears... I don't see a problem... Still has plenty of power... Gotta think that there are a lot of 4 cylinder vehicles out there running 33's and even though there gearing may be different my xj still has way more power and acceleration... I'm not a speed demon anyway... If I was I'd be driving a sport car... I say go with the 33's now and save for the gears... If you go with 31's now then you have to save for gears and larger tires...

 

Im perfectly happy with my 33's on stock gears for the time being until I can regear.
My only complaint is at highway speeds the OD shifts in and out.

But my jeep is not my DD and when I drive Highway its just to go to a place to offroad.
so I dont go very far.
Also top speed I get is like 75 comfortably.
with the lift and all lol

 

ouch i feel bad for you.. you got a pugeot tranny... idk if i would throw 33's on with that tranny... wanna rebuild one? lol. just curious how has that thing treated you? was it a swap?
