Anything over 2-2.5 is not recommended.

Why? The bumpstop tower acts as a coil spring locator/retainer.
The higher you go using spacers the closer the upper end of the coil comes to being able to pop off.

IF you have 2" spacers and want a little more, ZJ coils (Grand Cherokee)
is said to net 1" more over the stock XJ coil.

Other than that; I recommend 3" (or higher) lifted coils.

Make sure if you go the zj coil route, you get them from the 8 cylinder. The 6 version will be abouot the same as the xj.

On my 1st XJ I used V8 ZJ coils and got 1.5", and also kept my 2" spacer for a nice comfortable 3.5".

I have run a 3" coil spacer for a year and a half now with no issues....... I would'nt use one for serious off road though.
