I wanting to re-gear my 2001 Xj. It has D30 and C8.25. I will be upgrading to 31's. Using this chart, I think I want 4.10. What does re-gearing entail? Where can I find the parts and how much can I expect to pay?

You mean you have the D30 in front and 8.25 in back.
Research the Ford 8.8 swap. It can be found w/4:10 w/LSD and has disc brakes. Then you find the front axle from a 2.5 Jeep and swap that in as they have 4:10s. Now you have matching 4:10s w/a LSD and disc brakes.
I am thinking of doing this in the winter, but am also looking at just getting my diffs regeared to 4:56. Not sure what I'm going to do yet.

If you are gonna regear your current axles it would be wise to go ahead up to 4.56.
4.10 is not worth it unless you are gonna stay at 31's or less for ever.
31's on 4.56 would be fine till you upgrade the tires.
Lifting is a disease and you will never be happy till you have 12in of lift with 38's lol. Always plan for future improvments lol.
The 8.8 is a good swap if you are sure about sticking to 4.10's.

For this one I'll do 4.10. I found a good write up. I'd like to know where I can get them.

I'm just answering my own question now. After looking into it, re-gearing would be a good thing to do but, it's not necessary for 31's. If I was going to re-gear it'd be only to go bigger.

The other thing you need to look at since you have the 3:55 ratio is you may have to change out the carrier too. The 3:55 is a PITA for some reason. Reason the 8.8 is such a good choice, especially if you have the 3:55 (which is what I have too).

Yes re gearing is VERY expensive even if you can do them your self gears for both axles are 600+. And then if you someone else to do them tack on what 1400 more for both axles.
That is why going to 4.10 is pretty pointless since there are Junk Yard unpgrades out there to get you 4.10 for at the most 350-400 bucks depending on the JY.
An upgrade from 3.55 to 4.10 will require the carrier also. I am at 3.55 on both my rigs one with 30's the other with 31's and although I would like to regear it is not high on the list because of expense and for the fact that I still have enough power to suite my needs. When I do regear I will regear to at least 4.56-4.88 depending on what tire I decide to buy next.
