Default 3.5" Lift - Control Arms?

I purchased an XJ with a 3.5" lift already installed. What are the symptoms if the stock control arms are not up to the job now that the lift is installed?

Also, how can I tell if the control arms were replaced when the lift was done? What do I look for?

Thanks!

The most noticeable thing you will see if your control arms are too short for your lift is the front tires will be waaay closer to the rear of the wheel well then the front. They should be centered in the wheel well if everything is right. You could get all kinds of symptoms if the control arm bushings are worn out. Death Wobble, pulling to one side or the other, possibly play in steering, possibly clunks and other noises while turning, accelerating or braking.

The only way you would be able to tell if the control arms were replaced when the lift was done is if after market control arms were installed. The OEM control arms on XJs are those C channel looking enemic things. All after market control arms I've seen are made out of big beefy round stock.

stock control arms are fine for a 3" lift, theyre just not as strong as aftermarket ones. the wheels wont be 'sucked back' and giant amount, the correct length for lowers on a 3" lift is only .25" longer than stock, and the uppers are the same length as stock until you go over 4". and stock arms flex pretty well.

There are definitely some clunks that pop up during turning, accelerating and braking.

What about on a 3.5" lift? Right on the edge of needing new lowers depending on how the vehicle reacts to the lift?

stock lca's look like this.

usually with that much lift, its recommended to upgrade the lca's. my 3.5" lift came with new ones.
