my 2d has pockets and the panel is slotted. i took off panel and i dont see speaker wires there and no speakers. my question is. Did the 2dr come with lift gate speakers? or did it have a speaker pod on roof? previous owner added a custom headliner. wich i dont care for. will eventually change it to stock color. would stock harness have speaker wires do i just have to take side panels to find them and rout them.

What year is your XJ? Was there any wiring in the liftgate? Sometimes the wiring can be tied up in the harness for the rear window wiper or defroster.

I have a 92 2 door, base model. It came with only two speakers in the front doors. When I took the back panel off there was wiring there. I plugged in some metra adapters (72-1002) and put in some Pioneer 5 1/4 speakers. The stock system will not sound awesome, but its passable. (I have a stock headunit, and 4 pioneer g series. With adapters and 4 speakers, I was like $50.00 all in for new speakers, not bad considering how expensive this stuff can get.)

Side note: There is a jumper harness behind the radio that can be removed. When you remove the jumper harness, it should be able to plug back into the stock radio and power as if there were 4 speakers. Don't know if yours will be like this, this is just what I have run into.

 

1996, yeah it has some wiring but for lock, for wippers but I don't see color wire for speakers. Also have defrost connector that I don't have defrost. I want to use 2 alpine 5x1/4 speakers on there I have a kenwood hu that is just media player. Thank you I will,look again

 

As I can remember the wiring was taped up in some of the harness. Let me know how it turns out.

Just depends on your model. My 2 door Laredo came with every speaker they offered including front doors, dash tweeters, sound bar, and hatch.
