Default 242 - 231 swap ???

ok guys sorry this is my first post so if its in the wrong section or whatever i apologize, so ill try and keep this short, my buddy has a 93 wrangler 4.0 with the ax-15, he had a 231 that we put a sye into, he ended up puttin a d60 out back with a different t-case and said i can have his for basically free, my question, i have searched all over and idk what the output spline count on my aw4 is, i have a '96 xj with the aw4/242 t case combo, can someone point me in the right direction or tell me if the will work or am i loking at a h&t for a sye
thanks a bunch

242 if you want 4x4 on asphalt. Case is a little more solid than the 231 but the central differential is a little delicate and must be used properly.

It won't work.
The '96 xj aw4 is a 23 spline and the '93 yj ax15 is a 21 spline.

it's a matter of years: even the aw4 has 21 splines before '06

hmm... guess i needs to restudy that... then why when people say to swap the BA-10 to a AX-15 they always say youll need another transfer case... you could use the same if u get the right ax-15? either way couldnt he get the 231 slip yoke out and just swap it into his current 231? or does the spline count on the rear side make a difference to the slip yoke?

Don't know about the peugeot gearbox, but yes, he can change the TC input shaft.
