If the coolant is dirty, that usually means it's old..........how old are the other cooling system components?

Not. Dirty coolant is a good indicator of lack of/poor maintenance/neglect. Might want to start checking things/fluids/maintenance items bumper-2-bumper.

Some cooling system components could be 20 years old.......a ticking time bomb. +/-$250 in parts will replace all the cooling system components, including the radiator. T-stat (it's cover), water pump, fan clutch, head/block flush are really easy to get to and do when the old rad is out. Replacing cooling parts one at a time is really a hassle 'cause u have to drain coolant each time u change one part. Change 'em all and be done with it.....summer time temps are just around the corner.

Define "a little higher". Ambient temps?
