Question 2004 Jeep Cher Lardeo -- Clicking/Ticking Noise

I saw a few posts on this forum relating to engine ticking/clicking noises, well I have the same thing, but mine only seems to make this noise when I first start it up cold. After it warms up then it goes away. Sometimes it might come back, but not usually. Then there are times when it's first started in the AM, there is no clicking/ticking at all, very sporadic. This is a 2004 6 cyl. I am not a car tech person at all. I have common sense knowledge but I have mentioned this to the regular mechanic I bring it to and they have not heard the noise when it was in for repairs....

Any ideas what it might be. When I lift up the hood, I do hear it loud and clear coming from the engine. Sometimes if I turn the car off and start it back up, the noise goes away, but most times not. Only goes away after warmed up for a while...

Thnaks for your help..
Charlie

There is no such thing as a 2004 Cherokee!

If this is a grand cherokee let me know and I will move it to the appropriate area.

Sounds like an exhaust leak from the manifold. It going away after warming up could be the result of the metal expanding.

incorrect. there is no 2004 cherokee IN THE USA. In other markets the Liberty is badged Cherokee. Guessing he's in Aus, or the UK. in which case what he's talking about is the 3.7 V6 ... commonly known for its lifter tick on cold starts.
