So, after I got to work this morning I found that my gas tank was leaking profusely...in looking for the leak I found so much more...see below:

and a closeup:

Has anyone else ever had a break here before?

If that is your frmae rail that is rotted through, you have bigger problems than the gas tank leaking....and no I have never seen a break there before. I'm from out west, though. I don't live where they salt the roads.

Yes, and yes. They salt like crazy up here...sigh. Well, after I drop the tank I'll weld up the frame rail before I put the new tank in.

I have, on the damn Jeep I just bought. Not like it was expensive by any means but I wish I would have spotted the break before I bought it.

Mine is more like a 2-4" rip on the side of the rail furthest to the outside of the vehicle but it is in exactly the same place. It looks like there is 3 factory holes in the rail, and the break is centered right on that middle hole.

I'll post pics up later tonight.

that is some bad cancer. good luck with the repair, you may want to look around for some C channel that can be cut and welded in, kind of like a sleeve over the entire area where it broke away.

That's a good idea, I'll probably do something like that.

That is scary.....

+1 for for west coast rigs. I may have paid a little much for my 94 Sport(145k for $2300 ) but its rust free and solid!

How long have you been driving on it like that? Are you still stock right now?

Not sure how long it has been like that. I am still mostly stock. I have replaced the rockers with custom sliders and put a tire carrier on top, but that is about it so far. No lift yet.

Umm.....

Not to scare you but if that was my rig I would want to give the rest of it a good once over. There is a good chance that there is more rust in other places that may need to be addressed.

I know, I am giving it a good once over. Like I mentioned before this may retire her from the trails, she may just have to be a DD from now on.
