2001 XJ cranks but won't start
Hello all.
So I was driving down the highway coming home last night, I see the "Check Gauges" light come on, I see the oil pressure is pegged at 0. To be safe, I pulled over and shut the truck off. I know the oil pressure sending unit is wonky on these, and mine has pegged 80 occasionally, but a simple restart or giving the sending unit a whack will make it read normal again. I shut it off just to be safe, in case it was actually reading correct.
I try to restart the Jeep, assuming the sending unit will get it right this time and it just cranks and cranks and cranks. Won't fire. I had it towed home and dug into it today
Ran the codes - I have the typical misfire code that I'm used to seeing from hot starts - thats been there a while, and then receive two new ones:
p0340 - cam sensor - this one was older, and I think I remember when it happened, because there was a misfire in between. I really gotta insulate the injectors one of these days...
p1391 - crank or cam
I happened to have a cam sensor on hand, my dad was going to put it in his TJ. So I replaced the cam sensor first because I had one and its the easier of the two to get to. No change
I changed the crank sensor as well, assuming it was that, and there was no change.
The fuel pump comes on, and I've got fuel at the rail. Compression/timing doesn't seem to be wildly off, as I can see the valves moving, and I have suction at the intake. It cranks like it normally would just doesn't fire.
What has me perplexed is - it was running perfectly fine until I shut it off, so I can't imagine it was spark or fuel, and the oil pressure gauge has me thrown as well. I only shut it off out of precaution. Oil was probably a 1.5-2 quarts low, and I'm being generous there, but that's fairly normal for how long its been since I've checked it. (It loses about 1 quart every 3k miles, I forgot to check at 3, and its been about 6k now)
Any help would be appreciated guys. Only thing I can think of is the computer, but I don't want to just keep throwing parts at it. Everything else kind of just made me think crank sensor, but I've got absolutely no change with the new one. thanks guys
