Default 2001 Tune up-plugs and coil pack

I've done a pretty good search between here and google but I am getting lots of different answers. After a recent road trip to much warmer Scottsdale,AZ I got a code for a misfire for #1 and #3. (I'm sure it's most likely related to the "heat soak" issue) I need to change the plugs anyways but was wondering what most people with a 2001 are using?

I've read champion copper plugs are great for our jeeps but also read the 2000-2001 came stock with NGK and that's what works best for them?? I read through my build sheet but didn't see it mentioning the stock plugs.

Also, I know mine has coil packs instead of wires. I've never had a vehicle with the coil pack ignition. Is it NEEDED to be changed when I do plugs or is there a way to test to see if its good/bad? If it does need changed what is best for the 2001?

The coil rail is not generally replaced as a preventive measure. Only when symptoms and or testing point to it.

As for plugs, I've had a bit of experience with the 00-01. Champion plugs work okay, but the gap on them seems to open up on them earlier than NGK. I recommend NGK copper plugs (replace every 30k) as they work best with this particular coil on plug ignition system.

Be sure that plug gap is verified at .035 before installing! Never trust plug gap out of the box.

I run NGK's in my 01 and they are exactly what you need. The boot kits are pretty cheap and and it doesn't hurt to change them while your already there. As for the heat soak, I zip tied heat insulator tape (double wrap) around all of my injectors and haven't had that issue since.

Looks like NGK's it is. The previous owner had the heat insulator tape put on so that's out of the way. Are the boot kits you're referring to go on the coil rail? (not near the jeep to look at the moment)

Go for coppers, I've tried most, champions, NGK nickels, but my Jeep has never run better than on V Power Coppers
