I believe the flexplate is different with the waste spark system on your 2001 motor. The windows in the plate are different in that there are 3 windows at each station instead of 2. The cam sensor times the injection cycle, not the spark. Spark is controlled by the PCM relying on the crank sensor measuring position and speed, plus manifold pressure and throttle setting. You may have to change the flexplate.
