Default 2001 jeep cherokee sport climate issues

So, I'm new here and i just bought a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport I6 4.0L 4x4 and Ive done some work to it to get it at least going up and down the road. Until I realized my Jeep only has A/C blower only works on high and only the windshield defroster works. It's still 30 degress outside in Michigan. Any help or ideas will be awesome

The blower running only on high is the classic sign of a bad blower motor resistor. If you have any signs of overheating wires (like melting of the connector) then you also will need to replace the actual blower motor.

Could you clarify what you mean by "Only has AC" - are you saying that the fan only kicks on when on an A/C setting or that you don't have heat?
The defrost setting uses the A/C. When you say "only windshield defroster works", are you talking about the output direction (or in other words that the dash vents don't blow)?

not sure about the melted wires as i don't know where to start....it blows cold no heat....coolant flows through heater hoses....air only blows out defroster vents no where else

Look into the blower motor resistor replacement. There's probably several YouTube videos on this. It's typically located low in the dash on the passenger side. There is a wiring harness that connects to it, if those wires or connector show signs of melting or burning, replace the blower motor.

For the issue of only getting air through the defrost vents, check out:

It sounds like you have several issues - blend door (hot vs cold) possibly, blower motor resistor (almost certainly needs replacement) and diverter (air direction).

I have little experience with the blend door/diverter stuff, so hopefully someone smarter than I can jump in with more specific or better advice.

That was my initial reaction - but I was under the impression the blend door was electric. However looking into it it is apparently both, so hopefully the OP just has a single fix to correct all the air flow issues, then a simple resistor fix for the fan speed.

I remember dealing with that horrid resistor on my TJ. I would have saved a lot of frustration with the melting wires had I known at that time that the typical root cause was the blower motor drawing too much current despite seeming to run correctly.
