Have original radio - tried swaping w/ a known good radio- the driver's door speaker doen't work- tried swapping speaker still doesn't. On back of radio which wires in harness go to driver's door- I'd put in new wires to by pass since they all appear to be wrapped . Thanks

Same problem with my 2000 it happen to be the wire leading to the speaker located in the rubber boot in the door jam. They are notorious for breaking in that location. Pull the boot back and look for the color wires that are connecting to you door speaker

Most likely a shorted or torn wire in the boot like the above poster stated. Try this. Take the speaker off and pull on the speaker wires lightly. If yours was like mine it pulled right out.
Alternatively, pull the boot off and trace the wires back. Almost positive you will find the culprit. Get yourself an end to end wire joint and you'll be good to go.

Ditto: wires in door jam boot.
Same issue on 2001 XJ, found that speaker wire comes into the door and then there was a connector where the speaker wire 'Y'-ed off for what I believe is a sail panel tweeter plug for higher end audio system. The wire flexed repeatedly where the factory 'Y' splice was and broke off there. A little stripping (yep, wore my clear acrylic heels and had the right music LOL), then soldered together and insulated the new connection with heat shrink tubing. All better now.

Yep my drivers door speaker wasn't working also replaced the wire and STILL wasn't working. Turned out it was the factory stereo that was the problem, replaced it with an aftermarket CD deck and works good now.
