Default 2001 Jeep Cherokee Speaker Problem

Currently my driver side door speaker doesn't work. I tried replacing the speaker, and even tried a different cd play and nothing fixed it. Any ideas on what it could be?

Pretty sure mine is out as well. Noticed this on a few when I was looking to purchase one. Just subscribing to see what the veterans have to say for a fix.

Its a common problem in the Cherokee's. A wire gets cut from opening and closing the door. Best thing to do is run new speaker wire from the deck to the speakers. At least thats what I did

Yes, common problem. Just run a new wire.

I had this problem and found a bad splice in the protective hose of the drivers door. for some reason they spliced 3 wires right where the door opens. After I pulled them back and made one side longer, I found a better location for the splice

Previous repair more than likely.

Had this same problem and just wanted to throw in my two cents and hope it helps someone. Driver side speaker in my stock 2000 XJ out. Changed the speakers out with some kickers (6.5 inch front 5.25 rear). Sounded better over all, but still no driver side sound. Changed out my head unit. Still no sound.

Pulled the door panel again and this time pulled the interior panel leading to the door boot. Then pulled the boot and unwrapped all the loose decaying electrical tape off of the wire bundle. Still couldn't find the problem.

Yanked gently on on of the speaker wires and it came right out into my hand so I knew it was severed in that boot bundle. Now that I knew the color, it was much easier to find the broken wire.

There's a clear plastic sleeve around two green wires (one is a speaker wire, IDK what the other one is) that ends RIGHT INSIDE the door boot. Stupid stupid design. The speaker wire was severed right at the end of that sleeve. I had to cut the sleeve with an exacto knife to get at the wire.

Splice it back up, taped the hell out of it with new electrical tape. I've got nice sound now!

Rather than run an entirely new wire, i just spliced it at the speaker to just inside the kick panel. That way if it even breaks again, I can easily splice it again.

Default replace dont repair

It's caused by the stiff wire insulation used by the factory. take the time to replace all of the wires once you get in there (atleast only through the gromit sections). Handfull of butt connectors and a few feet of wire and you're good. If you only repair, IT WILL happen again. even in the tailgate.

New speaker wire was my plan as well, that is until I got it all pulled out. So the wires at the speaker are one black with orange strip and one green with gray strip. But there is no black with orange strip at the back of the factory deck??? So my question is, Which two wires coming out of the factory deck are for the front passenger speaker? Its on an 01 sport if that makes a diff. Thanks.

Wow, I feel like a dumb@$$. After searching the internet for the answer to my question I come across a picture telling me what all the wires are. Only took me about 20 seconds to realize the picture was of a sticker on the top of the deck. LOL. Yup all the info I needed was staring right back at me the whole time.

On a side note, turns out my problem was not the typical broken wires. I ran a brand new wire, hooked it all up and still no sound. Leave the radio on and pull the speaker and it is going on and off. Turns out the connecter was cracked/bad. So I stripped some more wire and soldiered the wires right to the speaker. Works great. These speakers sound pretty decent for factory (at least when all four are working).
