Default starting issues

Hey yall, I got an occasional problem starting my 99 X. Every now and then when I get in to crank it, it will crank rough then be fine and later on in the day I'll try to crank her but all I'll get is a rough attempt at a start but won't get her started, then I'll again and get a click and nothing. Usually, if I leave her alone for a little bit about an hour or so she'll crank fine. I'm thinking it's my starter or altenator but I'm clueless Any help would be awesome. It's a 99 XJ Sport edition with the 4.0 automatic
Cheers y'all

Maybe start with the easy stuff like clean battery terminals.

The grounds seem to be a common issue as well. The two posts right below, and behind, the ac compressor get corroded and seem to be easily overlooked.

Check your battery terminals for any loose connections or corrosion. Clean terminals with a wire brush. Wire brush ground next to battery and on the firewall on the driver side of the engine block. If that fails, pull the starter and battery and have them tested at a parts store. Doesn't sound like your alternator.
