Default 2001 jeep cherokee

I had my jeep towed home because it died would not start. I replaced the cps. Started and ran fine , then when putting in to gear it died a couple of times. Now it has died and won't restart. Any ideas? Do these jeeps have a neutral safety switch that goes bad?

Have not checked fuel pressure. The guy who looked at it when this first happened, wad able to start it after 2 days in shop , only codes he could pull was a miss fire. I drove it home 175 miles from his shop , no problems, got home , put fuel in it and drove it around the. It stalled again same as first time. Had it towed home , could not get it to start until I replaced the cps. Do they have an ECM ground problem with these jeeps. The battery posts were need of a cleaning so I did that with no change.

Where did you get the new CPS from? If it wasn't OEM that may be your problem. After market are known to be crap and if they do work they will only for a limited time. But most are bad right out of the box.

I bought it from a jeep dealer. Genuine parts.

This jeep has always started on the second crank over. I've listen to the pump when the key is cycled and I can hear it pump up. Maybe the pressure regulator is bad on the pump.

Or a bad check valve in the fuel pump do a pressure test to give you a better idea of where you start to pin point the problem.

If one or the other is bad I would change them both since you will have the tank down anyway.

Yes they do. If the starter motor cranks the engine, that isn't the issue though.

You might try a shot of starter fluid in the throttle body to see what it does. Air, fuel, spark. It's not getting one of those 3 things....

What is really weird with this jeep is last Saturday after replacing cps , it died would not start, I let it sit and then was able to start and run. It ran for 10 minutes, shut down , then I restarted it and it ran nice and smooth for about 45 minutes, died and I was able to restart. It sat all week on driveway, I went out the other night and turned the key , started right up. The times that I've had it running I've not tried to drive it , when I did on the previous time it died and had to restart it. I'm going to put a fuel preside gage on it today and see what I've got. Thanks for all the info, I will let you know what happens.
