Ive seen that tape advice before. Are you saying push them all the way through and tape it there, or have them just barely in/started and tape it there?

If I really don't want to lose the bolt by having it fall out of the socket, I stick it in the socket, throw a piece of tape across it to hold it in the socket. One the bolt is started, rip the tape off.
