2001 Cherokee hard to start and won't idle

2001 Cherokee hard to start and won't idle
When I try to start my Cherokee it barely turns over and won't start unless I push the gas pedal. When it does start it will not stay running unless I use the gas pedal to keep it going. Anyone have any suggestions about what I need to do? The battery is ok so I'm not sure what else would make it turn over so hard and then not idle.
