Its an almost cherry example inside and out from the south with low miles and is mechanically perfect. Kind of set on the swap and not really interested in "not worth it, trade it in for 4x4" or "sell it and buy a 4x4" advice. I plan to take the stuff off the beater and clean it up this winter to get it ready for install in the spring. What Im wondering is if I can use the 4x4 parts (trans, tcase, front and rear) from another year like a 2000 maybe. Everyone says use the same year for bolt in application, but my understanding is that the 2000 and 2001 are nearly identical. There are a lot of 500$ XJs on CL that are missing a motor or something or other with all the stuff I need intact. Just wondering if I can expand my search to one more year.

I am no expert on anything cept making bad decisions so take this with a grain of salt. But from what I have heard the conversion is pretty straight forward and should be an awesome project. With a cherry 2wd to start with I would say effin do it!!
