2001 xj 2wd to 4wd conversion
Hi everyone, its my first post and just thought I share this with everyone since the forum has help me thru out the process. So I got my first xj, and unfortunately, its was a 2wd. So I set out to convert it it 4wd. I found a 99 xj donor and started working on it last month. Picture worth a thousand words, so here it is:

At this point, i don't know what to do about the "transfer case indicator switch" that tells which drive position, 2h,4h,4l etc. If anyone know or have done this, let me know,. thanks.

I did this on my 94'. I didn't hook up the indicator at all. I kinda know if I'm in 4wd or not. You can feel it in my XJ lol.
I was e-mail someone back and forth a little while ago about doing this swap, I think that he did hook his up, I'll go look and see if I can find it. Found it, but I'm not sure if this will help you. This is what this guy did:
I found a donor harness from the plug by the firewall to the transfer case for the speedo and the 4 wd shift plug. I got mine from a 93. The 96 was a different plug. It can be either a auto or standard. The only difference from the 2 wd wire is there are 5 leads and 2 plugs. Plugged right in and worked once I put the light in the cluster.
Welcome to the forum, this is a great place, and the guys on here are even better.
Hope this helps,
J
