Default 2000 xj runs rough

Have 2000xj stock and sometimes it will run rough if I drive for a while then shut it off for a little then start back up. Noticed that when off road and run it hard(high revs) if I shut it off it starts hard and misses a while. Any ideas? Thanks

The start up issue when hot is common. It is a faulty computer code that causes it to do that

Completely normal. If you want the code fixed take it to a skilled mechanic or dealer

Have you plugged in a code reader? If you take it to autozone ( i suggest buying one yourself so you have your own) they will do a free code scan for you.

It's an issue with 00-01 mainly. Check the Jeep website there is a recall for installation of a "heat shield" for the injectors.

whistle- sounds like you have the '00-'01 heat soak issue. Too much heat under the hood causing vapor lock in the injectors. You should still take it to get the codes read. There are many fixes to the heat soak issue. I am trying to resolve mine right now. Some people have installed a switch for the electric fan, so that they can run it all the time, some have even put a timer on it to run the e-fan after you turn the jeep off. The cheapest fix is installing hood vents. It lets the heat out from under the hood. The problem I see with the vents is water coming through. i know some people have installed drip pans to channel the water away from electrical parts. I am currently looking into getting a cowl hood, so that the hot air escapes. So far it seems to be the most expensive. I have also heard that upgrading the injectors might help, but not sure about that one yet.
