2000 xj ignition saftey problem
2000 xj 4.0 aw4 np242
I have a safety feature on my jeep that goes like this, put key in ignition and turn to on position, noise comes from under dash ( two fast high pitched beeps) then the jeep will start when I turn the key to the start position, if I try to turn the key before those beeps it will not start, and after I turn it off and pull the key out I get another beep. This is what normally happens, my buddies 01 xj does the same thing and I think ive seen this in a Chrysler 300 before so I think its a factory security system.
Any way my jeep will not start now because it does not beep when I go to start it, just the beep when I take the key out. my jeep was running and driving yesterday just fine. I want to know how to get rid of this security system so I can start my jeep.

It sounds like you have the POS Sentry Key Immobilizer System.
Is your ignition key grip gray in color and is round(ish)? If it is, you have the SKIS and the SKIS Module is probably acting up.
If you have the standard key with the squared off black grip on it you don't have SKIS and there is another issue.

I have the round key and I put it in neutral tried to push it into my garage but I wouldent roll cuz of the snow so I gave up got in the jeep shifted it in park and it beeped and started when I tried to start it

My 99 has the Sentry system.
Not sure how different it is on the 2000, but I have never had to wait on two quick beeps to start, nor does it beep when I remove the key.
When I put the key and turn it to the on position, it will give the slow beeps letting you know everything is turned on, but I never have to wait for beeps to turn it to the start position and crank the vehicle.

Is it just me, or does that sound like the NSS acting up? Have you tried starting it in neutral?
