Default 2000 xj gas leak

Morning everyone, filled up the other day and started spilling gas everywhere, awesome. funny thing was: I looked around at all the vehicles and thought to myself : "I think someone is spilling gas, that would suck." Haha.

Anyway, I've scoured the forums and google and decided to check the fuel p ump nut and seal. So I climbed under the Jeep and squeezed my hands up to the top of my tank and the nut is most definitely loose. I tried to tighten it and I actually seemed to get it "to what it felt like as tight" however, this morning I noticed a trail of gas.

So, my question: is there any way to fix this without dropping the tank? I have about 4/5 of the tank filled. I have never done this before and really don't want to pay a shop a crazy price to fix something that seems simple in "theory"... Haha

All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

-Shane

I was looking at how to drop the tank. How long would you think that takes being this would be my first time. Also do you think it's worth it? I was also thinking if that nut is loose, wouldn't the gas evaporate? And also fuel pressure drop maybe causing problems later?

if your looking to drop the tank it really isnt that hard to do. i dropped mine 3 times the other day trying to fix a hole in my tank. if u dont have a gas tank skid plate go under the jeep anad there are 2 metal straps and just take those off. after those are off u have to remove the filler hose and fuel line going to the pump. shouldnt be to hard to do
