Default 2000 XJ D30/8.25 Ring/Pinion Question

I've searched, and read just about all the threads regarding gears.......

Here is my question.

I'm running 33's and need to re-gear. I want to run the Nitro or Yukon 4.88's....

When I look at the Nitro's the 8.25 is no problem. The D30 says that 2000's can have either a High Pinion or Low Pinion D30, does this matter when I order the gears?

If it does how do I tell which D30 I have, I suspect I have a Low Pinion, most places I've looked list the 2000-20001 as having the Low Pinion. I can't seem to find a Ring and Pinion set that is anything but High Pinion......

I never thought this would be as confusing as it seems to be. Also should I be ordering anything in addtion to the Ring and Pinion gears and a Master Install kit for each axel?

What about the carrier.....this is all new to me......help!

No Carrier needed, you can use the current as long as you are within the break. I forget off hand where they are but a quick search will tell you.

All answered above for you. Do you have someone helping you install them? Or are you getting a shop to do it?

Going to have a local shop doing the work......I just wanted to buy the parts to avoid the shop's parts mark up.

So if I have the Low Pinion D30 I'm assuming there are gear sets available for the Low Pinion....cuz I don't see that choice anywhere I've looked.....or maybe I'm just now looking at the right thing. Is the axel referred to as Low or High Pinion D30 or is there another term I should be looking for.

And thanks for the quick reply!

you have a high pinion they are reverse cut and low pinion are not 8.25 you will be fine with the stock carrier but up front if you are going to 3.73 or higher gear you will need a higher carrier. xjs come with high pinions

Ok...so looking at the picture the axel on the right looks like the drive shaft comes in above the axel centerline....wouldn't that make the one on the right the HP D30.......?

I've looked at my axel and it looks exactly like the one pictured on the left of the photo. So that would make mine a HP D30 correct?

I've attached a couple crappy cell phone pictures hoping to get a bit of feedback as to whether I am correct.

I agree....I think Ottawa reversed things so far as the picture in the link.....

The black axel is the HP and the other is the LP.
