2000 JC stalling and starting issues
2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 4WD
Random stalling and intermittent (after warm up) starting
Symptoms
Stalls after Jeep warms up, seems to get a little hot about 215 degrees. Sometimes when hood is open it won’t stall, close hood it stalls.
After it stalls it usually won’t restart until engine cools down.
Fuel pressure is 50 psi at idle and never changes even when it stalls
Replaced cam sensor no change

I had what might be similar symptoms in my '00. Was my Crankshaft Positioning Sensor. Would start fine cold, get up to operating temp and stall. No sputtering, CEL's, weird gauge crap, etc that are sometime associated with the CPS. In the beginning it would start right back up. Could stall again in 2 blocks or let me get the short distance that I had too. It appears that a CPS can be prone to thermal failure. Before I replaced it would stall as I described but was harder to get started again. At that point I took a chance and replaced it before it really stranded me. All has been fine since.
