Default 2000 front axle tube

My repair skills are pretty much limited to plugs and brakes, so for many this is a real easy question.

Short story, major rut, snapped brake line retainer clips, lots of noise, hitting drive shaft. Luckily had some tie wraps, got it hung back and went home.

Now... on cleaning up the quick fix this morning I noticed that the brake line had pushed a piece of tubing, which is wrapped in insulation, against the universal, and tore it up. This tubing comes from the front axle housing, and leads to a (currently hard to see) rigid tube attached to the frame, and not far from the front housing.

I see in the parts manual it calls for 5/8" fuel tubing, but....

What does that line do?
What did I lose (fluid wise), if anything?
Drive it (not long), before fixed?

Thanks all!

i'm not sure if I pictured the right thing, but is it possible you're talking about the diff vent tube? if so, this tube should simply be tie-wrapped to something that doesn't move and up in the engine bay. if it's torn up, look into replacing it. again, if that is the vent tube, it's not hard at all.

Cane, thanks.

I saw that in a diagram, but it didn't seem to be heading in the same place as mine. Mine is attached both to the housing, and then to the rigid line (the one I mentioned I can't see - until I jack it). You are, however, probably correct, and I'll not worry that I I just ran out of some fluid or other, and get it replaced and tied up ASAP.
