I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee V6 that will usually start fine the first time of the day, but after that it takes 3-4 tries with the starter.

I can turn the starter for about 2 seconds, 3 or 4 times, and then it starts. It starts this way if I don't press the accelerator. If I give it some gas, it won't start as easy.

I can turn it over forever (or until the starter burns up or the battery dies) and it will never start. I have to stop the starter and retry three or four times before it will start.

It runs perfectly smooth once it starts. The starter and battery are fine.

I knew of a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had this same problem for years, and it never got better or worse (and was never fixed).

Any ideas?

Check your fuel pressure. Also it is not a v6.

Oops! You're right - it's a 4.0 liter six cylinder.

I agree that installing a fuel pressure GAUGE on the schrader valve on the fuel rail and comparing those readings with what you see on a cold start would be a good thing to do.
