Default 2000 Cherokee Sport Issue

Hey guys,

I've been driving around and as of late I have noticed instances where my Jeep just loses power. This lose of power only happens for a second or two, its kinda like a sputter and it will happen in any gear. I notice it now more and more and its usually at its worst when I am accelerating up a hill. Some times it won't do it at all (usually a short trip) and some times it will do this like once every couple miles.

I'll mention that I have an automatic transmission and this problem does not seam to occur while shifting and does not seam to resemble a slipping transmission.
I had my engine replaced with a 1995 one about 6 months ago. I noticed the above problem before the engine change and now after (I did not have my engine changed because of this problem.)

Some times I'll be driving and I'll be the only one to feel the sputter. Some times it will be so harsh that it doesn't even feel like a sputter and more of a jerking which everyone in the car will point out.

My Jeep has a check engine lite on so I'm going to go to my mechanic and get him to check the code and give me his two cents. If anyone could give me any ideas I'd love to compare them with his results.

Thanks so much guys

Sounds like a possible fuel delivery issue.

Partially stopped up fuel filter or dirty injectors. Possible bad fuel pump relay. Any auto parts store can read your CEL code for you.

could be a bad torque converter. i had a thunderbird a while back with a brand new trans but they never replaced the converter and it did the exact same thing. when it is cold it doesnt do it al all maybe everyonce in a while but after a long drive it was rly bad. not a fun job to do so check the fuel and injectors first but it may be a converter. thats what it sounds like to me if it shifts fine.

Your particular year doesn't have a serviceable fuel filter, thought you should know before you go poking around. Also, autozone or advance will scan your jeep for free to see what code the check engine light is throwing. Could be a fouled spark plug.
