Default 2000 Cherokee sport

i took this over from my wife when i bought her a new car. already put rough country 3 inch lift with 32s on it,adding two more inches this weekend..questions are what transfer case and axels does this come with from the factory. are they pretty good?

also...may be a silly question but i can see on my guage cluster where it says part time and also full time for the 4 wheel drive but when i put it in 4h or 4l it only shows part time...is it just cause they use the same gauge cluster as others? and also whats the difference in part in full? is full just awd models?

Go to jeep's website. Send them an email with your VIN number and they'll send you all the specs of your jeep when it left the factory

The front axle is a Dana 30, the rear is a Chrysler 8.25. The transfer case is an NP231. And for part and full time. Full time 4wd allows all the wheels to turn at different speeds so when you turn the outer wheel can turn more than the inner. This can be used while driving down the road in the snow and stuff. Part time locks the front and rear drive shafts so all the wheels turn at the same time. It'll give you better traction when offroading or on loose gravel dirt or snow. If you switch to part time while offroad, the outer tire will slip when you turn so it wont stress your drive train. If used on dry roads, the outer tire cant slip and it can cause a lot of stress. Hope this helped.

You have a Low Pinion Dana 30 in the front and either a Dana 35 or a Chrysler 8.25 in the rear, with the 8.25 being much more desirable. You have NP231 transfer case, which is a part time case. You won't want to use it on dry surfaces. It is a desirable case. You are correct in your thinking about the gauge cluster and seeing both full time and part time.

Use this chart to determine which rear axle you have.

Umm...how do you know it's a 8.25?

looks like the rear is a Chrysler 8.25 ..it was kind of hard to tell except then i noticed the Dana 35 had a screw in bung and the Chrysler has a rubber plug..plus the little lip at the top!! so pretty sure i got the 8.25...thanks for all the help!!

Abs brakes =d-35/ non-abs=8.25, 8.25 cover is not totally round like a d35 its flat top and bottom don't use the plug as your only identifiyer.

Take your VIN to the Chrysler parts counter and they can print out an as built list of components.
