Default 2000 Cherokee Speaker Fitment

Ive searched alot and havent really found any definitive answers. My speakers in my jeep are stock and i wanna upgrade them. Can 6.5" speakers fit in the front doors, and/or the rear speaker bar?

I found somewhere that said a certain depth 6.5" speaker will fit right into the door no modification. Im alright with drilling holes i just need to know if i should order the 6.5's, the sound quality is so much better than 5.25".

On the rear speaker bar ill probably just order the 6.5" and stuff them in there somehow. I found a good writeup on here so ill probably use that.

5 1/4 in front cause its a metal cut out and the stock door panel wont allow bigger, and 6.5 on the rear but you have to horse shoe them in and maybe try a few brands of speakers some fit and some dont.

Dont see what's stopping anyone making some speaker mounting spacers out of mdf. I would have done this already but there are so much more important things to spend my money on my car atm.

If you add a subwoofer, 5-1/4" with foam baffles like the ones Crutchfield might give you better sound since all you will want from them are highs and mid. Without a sub, the 6-1/2" in the rear without baffles might be better while keeping 5-1/4" with baffles up front.

I have a 98 4dr that I picked up the day before I had to leave for work. As far as I could tell on the drive home was that only one speaker was working. I am 800 miles and a little over a week away from it and I want to order new ones to have them waiting. I need to know how many total speakers I have and what sizes? It has the Infinity tweeter pods on the doors so I'm guessing it has the whole Infinity setup minus the head unit but I can't look at it so I'm not sure. Can anyone help?

I can help as my 2000XJ had the Infinity system. Your front door speakers do not work because the speaker wire in the front door boots are broken. You can run a new wire through the boots to the kick panels and then splice into the existing existing wires. The front door speakers are 5-1/4" component speakers, they are not very good and you may want to replace them with nice component speakers with an external crossover, I like Boston Acustics since they are very efficient. The rear soundbar speakers are 5-1/4" coaxle speakers and can be replaced with 5-1/4" coaxles. I should add that nothing beats a subwoofer if you can swing it. Crutchfield is a great place to order speakers from. Get the baffles that go behind the speakers as well, they really tighten up the sound, and protect the speakers.

If you want to remove the Infinity system, and just run a good head unit, you will need to jump the speakers wires that are connected to the amp under the rear driver's side seat. Get yourself the proper Chrysler head unit adapter plug to make you life easy. When you get to that point, post or PM me and I can assit you. Here is a wiring diagram that you WILL need to do this. It is very complete. JB

Sounds good id like to see some pics.

I have an Alpine Type R 12" right now and while i love it, i dont really need it. It takes up space and a good set of speakers will be fine for me. Plus i can make about 200 off sellin the sub and amp and then i can buy something useful for my jeep like wheels. Or add it to my lift fund.
