I think this is one of our members trolling us... Reasons:
1. Date on invoice is 3-19-2014 or 3-29-2014... Cant tell
2. How would a messed up temp sensor cause any of these problems?
3. The "soot" is falling out of the exhaust...
If the OP is serious and I were him, I would hunt that mechanic down lol

Now that I think about it, I guess it is possible that a temp sensor could cause it to run rich... Computer thinking the engine is super cold etc. But 2300$?

Aw Monica..You are not "that kind" of girl? You can chalk up a nutty count on other places here. (course we can look at your "posts") 
I can be pretty slow sometimes, but If I saw a name and address for the shop, I might ask them how much they charge for a new glug valve. If there is no shop selling glug valves, that might settle it.
