Default 2000 Cherokee Overheating Still

My 2000 Cherokee Sport is overheating. I took it several places and they said it was a head gasket. I replaced the head gasket (which was fine), replaced the radiator, water pump, and thermostat and I am still overheating. Please help.

Is all the air out of the system? Can you hear the mechanical fan spinning up? Did you buy a high quality thermostat? My dad bought two bad thermostats in a row from Advance Auto and then switched to a fail safe from Nappa.

Funny how mechanics will say it's the most expensive thing first.

A decent mechanic will always check the simplest, which is usually the cheapest areas first.

I agree, check your fan componets. Not sure if your jeep has to the same set up as mine but i have one fan on a fan clutch and one thats electric. the electric one kicks on when the temp gets above normal operating temp. just let the engine get hot and if is doesn't kick on before it over heats thats it.

well i had a pressure test done, the new head gasket leaks. I am going to replace it again but I am still concerned I may have a bigger problem like a cracked head and all this work may be pointless. Any words of encouragement or advice would be appreciated.

unless it was severely overheated, i doubt the block is cracked. perhaps a cracked head. when you take it off for the second time.(should be a breeze, you've already done it once) have it magnafluxed. when you have the head off take a look down in the cooling passages and make sure you dont have any "stuff" in there clogging it up.

your head might be warped.. take it to a machine shop and have them check it out.. an unflat surface will also cause leakage.. did you use new head bolts when you installed it back on after the head gasket replacement? using same bolts is a big no no.

I hate to bear some bad news but in my situation, My efan was causing mine to overheat then i was getting low compression in cylinder 1. Removed the head last week and sure enough, there was a crack in between the two valve seats, there was also a crack in cylinder 2 but i didn't have any symtoms in that cylinder yet. Not sure how many more cracks were in the head. I told them to stop looking and i had to buy a referb'd head

Did you have your head magnafluxed, cleaned and inspected when you removed it? That is highly encouraged and well worth the money, so you know you are putting a good head back on.

Good luck on your situation

In case the block is cracked would any of you try the bottle sealers to try and get more life out of the engine?

It's probably a cracked head 2000s are known for it the crack usually occurs right under the oil cap
