Default 2000 Cherokee Heater A/C Question

So like the title says, it's a 2000 Cherokee, my question is about the heater selector. There are 8 settings with off being 1 of them. My question is this, when it is turned to the settings on the left, all have the snowflake symbol and are blue in color. Does that mean that the A/C will turn on even if the heater is turned to hot, like it would with the defrost selected, or does the cold air have to be on as well?

The reason I'm concerned is that on the 2000, the face and floor combo selection is only in the blue/snowflake range and living where it is -30° I don't want to have to keep flipping between face and floor just to stay warm, but I also don't want to have my A/C running all the time either.

My friend has a 99 Cherokee and he says he has a face and floor combo selection but not on the A/C side of the 8 selections.
EDIT: Friend got to thinking, double checked and it is the same as the 2000, which is the same as pic below.

The compressor will engage in any of the vent selector positions circled in yellow regardless of where the heat selector is positioned. The heat selector will add heat in any of the 7 vent selector positions. Don't think your friend is right about his '99.....windshield and floor yes, but not face and floor non-a/c.

You can use the mode selector AC face/floor selection and run the heat selector to the any heat range that you want. Just detach the connector off the Low Pressure Cycling Switch on top of the AC Accumulator and stow it away. The AC won't kick in with that switch disconnected. I've been using that setting in the Michgan winters for four years now (my AC has been inop for four years LOL).

The bad news is that I'd like to use the face and floor together but don't want the bad gas mileage of having to run the A/C, when I run just face my feet will get very cold so I switch to floor then my upper body gets cold, so it's a major pain to have to switch back me forth.

I may end up doing this but it's nice to have the A/C defrost option for my windshield.

It's really not "Defrost", it's Defog. If you can live with fog on the inside of your windscreen until the cabin warms up enough to clear it, go for the detach mod; if not you are SOL with the existing settings.

Yes, defog is the correct usage. Perhaps it's not a huge deal in the Jeeps but I know I other vehicles I've owned it doesn't defog properly without having A/C, thanks for the help everyone.

I realize this seems fairly insignificant, but when it is freezing *** cold outside, it's nice to have a fully warm vehicle when I have a hour drive to and from work everyday.

I Agree It Sucks To use the Defrost setting it Kicks AC on..Have to keep switching back and forth..I don't WANT AC pump running for Defrost More Gas and more stress on motor Less power acceleration..Mine has No option on the no ac side settings has Defrost setting ..feet and Defrost and then Vent...then on ac side has the same Except for the use of internal circulation in cab and blows harder and colder when ac on

Welcome to the forum.

The poster you quoted wrote that in 2013 and hasn't been back since 2014.

If you have an issue, I suggest starting a new thread rather than necropost such an old one.

The ac runs as a dehumidifier for obvious reasons.
