Default 2000 Cherokee fog lights not working

I just recently replaced the original fog lights which were cracked and broken, and haven't worked for a while, with replacement oem original lights, and they don't want to work, switch lights up, and can't figure out if there is a fuse or relay, the fuse space and relay space under the hood does not accept anything in the space allocated,....kinds stumped....by the way my Jeep Cherokee is a Cherokee Limited

if the switch lights up when you turn it on then the fuse should be fine, there is a relay in the pdc (fuses under the hood), try switching it with another that’s the same like a/c iirc.

just to be sure… fog lights only work with low beams on.

If still no change with a different relay try checking for power at the lights. If you don’t have 12v you probably have a broken wire between the lights and relay.

pics of your pdc might help if you can’t determine where the relay is.

I can't seem to find the relay or fuse, there are two locations in the under hood box that say its for a relay but there is no relay and the same goes for the fuse, and they will not accept a relay or a fuse as there is no electrical contacts......

So you are saying there are no terminals in the 2 relay spots in the PDC for the relays?
See now that makes me think your XJ did not come with fog lights.
Or somebody at some point swapped out the PDC from one that did not.

As I recall the relay is one of those hidden behind the righthand kickpanel, i;e. below the fuses, but I'm pretty sure it's only to turn them off when hi-beam headlights are selected. Of course, I suppose it could've failed so the Jeep thinks hi-beams are on.

A broken wire seems unlikely as they are separately wired but from what point I've no idea.

The 2000 FSM shows 2 relays in the PDC. Looks like relay 1 gets power through the headlamp switch and then provides power to the fog light switch through the beam select. With the fog switch on, it energizes relay 2 and turns the fog lights on.

These wiring diagrams are a bit tricky to navigate through but it shows a connection on the left headlamp (low beam side) that runs to relay 1.

Here's the PDC (partial)

Headlamp to fog light relay 1

Obviously things changed a lot after '99, but that is the clearest explanation of how the system works (or is supposed to), especially for me who, after all years, still finds American wiring diagrams more confusing than helpful.
