First off you have a 4.0L I6 not a V6..
They require the whole dash to be removed.... So if it's only $400 I'd pay it alot less head ack that way..

thanks for the heads up. maybe I'll just pay for this one then. I dont want to spend the $ but I also dont want to spend a day freezing in my driveway trying to fix it.
I also have a 2000 XJ, and I bought the service manual. My blower went out yesterday. I was quoted $450, inc. $300 for blower. I got one for $150 myself. The blower is removed from the engine side of the firewall, not the dash. The problem is, if you have AC, the evap canister is in the way, book says to recapture the r134, then disassemble and remove evaporator unit. Then easy access to blower- unplug harness and remove 3 bolts. I am going to try and do it without removing evap by taking off squirrel cage, we'll see...just wish I'd have gotten more notice.(bad timimg)
I did it! The blower motor comes as a 3-piece unit- the housing, the motor, and the fan(squirrel cage). If you take these apart it fits right in.
Re-assemble and you are done.

I have to replace the blower motor in an '01 Cherokee. The '00's and the '01's can't be that different under the hood. I've been wrestling with a bad blower system for the last two weeks (and it's HOT in FL right now!). I finally narrowed it down to a bad motor after replacing the resistor to no avail. You are the first person I've come across in many different forums that has done what I need to do.
Like you, I don't want to have to remove the evap core. It looks like I may have to remove a few things that are in the way, but hopefully NOT the evap core. If you have any pictures, I'd love to see how you did it. Otherwise, just tell me how easy it's going to be!!!

If your doing it or having someone else however have the heater core done at the same time if it is required to spilt the case open. But it looks like you can get to it seperatly.gl

What case do I ahve to split open? I'm planning on pulling the motor from the engine compartment and I didn't see any steps saying otherwise in the FSM? I'm confused, Is the fan NOT going to come out with the motor? I am doing it myself. I also taked to a 30 year Toyota mechaninc and think I have a trick to pull the motor W/O pulling the accumulator off. I plan on taking picks and doing something in the "How to" section if it works.

Not really a case it would be the housing for the heater core and etc, but like stated above you might be able to get it out from the front in the engine bay area.Sry on any confustion caused by using case instead of housing. good luck and please let us know if its possiable to remove the fan unit from the engine bay.

You loosen the silver clip on the hard line behind the accumulator, then you can rotate the whole package up out of the way. The other line is flexible.

I hope this helps...Tj
