I do know what a tranny and tcase are just didnt know that np231 and np242 stood for

new process gear 231 (part time case) and 242 (optional full time case)

Nope all bolt in...youll need a selector too..obviously.

Bolt up? Yes. Be compatible? Maybe. Need to make sure front diff is same ratio as rear, transmission is from the same year it in the same group of years as your current one

Not to undermind you Dave or vt, but this seemed confusing as hell to an outside viewer. So I'll put a detailed list. You will need an aw4 a 231 or a 242 a dana 30 front axle from a tj xj zj or mj with the same gear ratio as your rear axle (probably 3.55) and front and rear drive shafts from the jeep you get the tranny and t case from. You will also need the shifter and linkage from the donor jeep for the t case.
