Hi, I am the original owner of a 2000 XJ 4.0 which suddenly started missing then died after driving a block.. I'm now debugging a crank/no start problem with the help of many of the good threads here on the subject, a multimeter, a probe and the FSM.

Is C1 (as referenced in the FSM wiring diagram 8W30-5, for example) the black connector on the PCM ?
