Default 2 problems that are bugging me

2000 xj 4.0 aw4 np242 lifted crazy all that fun stuff

1st problem: low oil pressure at idol (sometimes) did an oil change (correct weight and amount of oil was put in all the oil was drained oil level is good) sometimes my jeeps oil pressure will sit at 10 at red lights and what not and build as I drive back to regular pressure. This happens at 5* and 50* temperature is not a cause.

2nd problem: no check engine light is on my battery has been in and my jeep has not died it over 2 months but every time I try to inspect it I get "not ready" for my emissions. Any Nys inspectors on here? Only thing I could think is a bad PCM

As for the oil pressure gauge... the sender is not exceedingly accurate. I believe the one on your 2000 is located on the thermostat housing. Might be worth changing.

What brand of oil filter did you put in?
You can always verify you oil pressure with a mechanical pressure gauge.

I thought 10-15psi at idle and anywhere from 40-60 at speed was normal oil pressure, no?

Oil sender on the thermostat housing? Send me some of that crack you're smoking....

The oil sending unit is mounted right above the oil filter.

As already asked, what brand oil filter are you using?

Pull the plug from the oil sender and see if there's oil in there. sure sign of failure.

Puralator is better than Fram. PLEASE, don't use a Fram on your XJ. They are know for bad anti-drain back valves which will cause dry starts, not to mention that they just don't filter that well. Most folks will recommend Wix or Napa Gold. Mopar is ok as well.

I do a lot more reading than posting here but when I bought my '99 I didn't drive it for a few days prior to getting it inspected. I had the same result, "not ready", my mechanic told me to drive it as much as possible for a couple of days. Two days later it passed inspection. He tried to explain why it "wasn't ready" but it went in one ear and out the other. Maybe someone on here with a lot more experience can elaborate.

I'm a mechanic myself and I work at the shop that I tried to get it inspected, however I do not have my inspectors license yet and my knowledge of computers and emissions is poor it did this the first time I tried to inspect it and I thought it was because the battery was out within the past few days, I'll try driving it a lot then running it through the obd2.

Check the monitors and find out which ones are not running. Do you have a real short commute? Make shire you get a few freeway trips in.

I was exhausted, thinking of the coolant temp sender. Which I think they moved from the back of the block to the thermostat housing in 1997... rofl.
