Default 2" Hitch for 96 Cherokee Bolt onto a 200

Quick question, probably already been answered but just needed a quick answer. Would a MOPAR Class 3 2" hitch for a 96 Cheokee bolt up to a 2000 or would i need to look for a 97 or above?

Thanks everyone

The hitch that I put on my 90 had these weird square washers that has to be placed in a certain pattern. I guess so when you tighten the bolts they don't move. Although I had to take my bumper off to get the bolts and washers in cause there was an old bolt in there, and with it off I could see how you could get some proper sized hardware and use and open end wrench thru the end of the frame.

Hopefully yours is the same if not this post is useless!

Does anyone know what the cost is for the mounting bolts? Or if i could just get bolts that work? The guy i might buy it off of only wants 25 bucks for the hitch, but no mounting supplies come with it..

grade 8 bolts will be your best bet. sometimes the dealer will sell nutstrips for hitches but it might not always be necessary, like it was said you can use washers.

you need nut strips for proper mounting unless you have the factory
gas tank skid plate then you already have the nut strips

You'll need some sort of nut bar to keep the nuts from rotating in there, you'll never get to it with a wrench.

Sorry for bringing this back to life. One final question i have:

Will nutstrips from all years work to put this on? Or will it have to be 97 and up?

Thanks again everyone

I tried to mount a 1996 2 inch titch to my 1997. The gas tank was in the way by about 1/4 - 1/2 inch. I could not get it to work. The tanks are different from 96 to 97. Some hitch Mgf. have different specs and different size support members. I hope yours fits. I used the nut strip I had from my tank skid. I think the bolt holes were the same on my 89, 96 and my 97. Good luck.

The tanks didn't change. Also, in regards to the hitch not fitting because of the tank being in the way...you probably just needed to give it some force to work past the tank, as the tank does move. When I installed my hitch I had to apply some force to get it to get past the gas tank straps.
