2.8 V-6???
#17
I agree with all the comments, the 2.8L engine is not the best but it did lasted 200 thousands miles before I did replaced with a AX engine. Now I have a bad noise from the bell housing. Any one knows that this brand have flywheel with a flax plate? or the converter directly bolts to the fly wheel? It is hard to get any info any more on this old models and manual is junk as it was written. Hope some one still have knowledge over this model and could help me out by providing info. Thanks.

Automatic or Stick ?
Automatic, it could be loose flex plate, torque converter bolts.
Stick it could be Flywheel bolts, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing.
The good news is that your 2.8 being a rebuilt now has the improved cylinder head and intake manifold gaskets and all the little updates that fixed the faults that gave the 2.8 a bad rep back in the day.

Yes, if you are looking for front 4.10 this is the way to get a cheap set of gears. If you have a CAD, it is a bolt in. Rear D35 4.10 also, but is not a corporate axle and no C clip. It is somewhat more durable that way than the C clip axle.

Yes, it's a GM v6 with only 115 or so hp. Only came in 84-86 XJs and the ****tiest part is the engine bays on them are too small for the 4.0 to be swapped into. Only way it will have 4.10 gears is if it had the old OHV package. Should have 27 spline D30 and D35.
4 cyl XJs tend to have the 4.10 gears.

The 3.4 V6 from Camaros and Firebirds was a bolt in swap with a nice boost in torque and horsepower. Carb and TBI from S-10 and Blazer were the awesome sauces.

I only had the 86 and down GM 2.8 in cars. That carb was the worst. Tried rebuilding it and still wouldn’t work right. Ended up wiring the choke part way open to at least get it driveable.
They got better for 87, but the 3.1 which came a little later was a lot better. More displacement by stroke, so considerably more torque.
Of course when I’m used to the torque of the 4.0, any of the others are a downgrade
