2.5L getting very BAD mpg...
Thanks for reading this post im just looking for some suggestions that might help my situation...
The vehicle is a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, Rear wheel drive, 2.5 L, manual trans.
It use to get about 25+ mpg when i got it a year ago. now it is running at about 10-13 mpg. on a good day 15 if im lucky. i ran a can of Sea Foam thru it and regained an average of around 25 mpg again. but after 2 tanks of strait gas, the poor mpg reoccurred. i believe it is the fuel filter but do not have the means to remove the tank to replace the fuel tank.
1. does this sound like the fuel filter? or could the injecters be failing or have so much gunk in them i need to run more SEA Foam thru it?
2. does the tank have to fully be removed in order to replace the pump and filter?
3. does any one in the Salt Lake area wanna let me replace it in there shop and possibly burn every thing to the ground.
lol No really if you have any good advice please reply
Thanks very much...

my girlfriends 96 gets 21mpg @65mph (~2100rpm) 4.0/aw4 with 29.5" tires and 3.55 gears..
Anyway, Fuel filter should be on the drivers side "frame rail" kinda behind where the rear door would be.. Looks kinda like a large pop can, you will see the fuel line going into it from the tank. I dont think you have to drop the tank to get the pump out, but I would definately run your tank empty before attempting it... Do you have any codes/CEL? I would check your o2 sensor too...
Im not to knowledgeable on this stuff, so hopefully someone on here can give you some better advice..

Did you ever get this figured out? I have an '87 Renix throttle bodied 4 banger that gets 24+ and still has decent power. The key to these 4 angry squirrels is letting them breathe easy. Make sure your intake is clean and you don't have any restrictions in your exhaust. If you are using the stock intake consider a cold-air cone filter. Check your oxygen sensor, too. Your engine may be running too rich due to an inaccurate signal from the sensor.
