2.5 VM Head gasket issues
Hey folks, im new to this forum so go easy also new to jeeps and ive just bought a 1995 cherokee xj 2.5td with the vm engine in it.
Looking to replace the head gasket.... bubbles in coolant when running, overheats etc.....
I looked online at gasket kits and it gives two options,
individual gaskets for engines up to 1995
one piece gasket 1995-2001 with common rail?????
i have not seen a common rail version of these in any xj's so i am very confused now,
the jeep ive bought has a complete head gasket for all 4 cylinders but it appears it should be individual ones, also got the xj manual and its telling me its a one piece gasket.
Has someone fitted the wrong gasket?
anyone shed any light on my situation,
Many thanks in advance,
Tom

Hey there Tom. Sounds just plain goofy to me. I personally have never seen or heard of a "multy piece" head gasket, nor can I imagine how that could work. Maybe I should be ready for a surprise!
When I got into the 2.5 on my 84, I found that all the overheating I did had cracked the head btw. Maybe the PO cracked it, but I got it plenty hot myself.
Got a JY head, hand lapped the valves, (with a drill), new seals and the one piece gasket, good to go.

Tom, have you tried a dealer on your side of the pond? Unfortunately not many people on this side have a lot of experince with the diesel cherokee, except the rare 2.1 Renault and in our dreams. lol

I stand corrected. I found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEAD-GASKE...ht_4649wt_1037

Cheers folks, did some further research no common rail vm's are in these xj's the individual gaskets are the old style and jeep have since produced a single gasket for all four individual heads, will attempt next week, failing that its getting a 4.0 high output petrol
