2.5 to 4.0 help

i have a 94 xj se. motors givin me problems and i want more power. i was thinking about doing a v8 swap but i dont have the time or the money. and its my dd. so wut would it take to swap in a 4.0 in place of the 2.5? wut would i need besides just a motor? it has a manual 5 speed transmissoin would i be able to keep it ?

To do the swap you will need the pcm and wirring harness for the motor you are using,might find a donor that has been wrecked but motor is still good,check your radiator also it maybe different,I am not familiar with 2.5s. your trany is an ax5,you should have no problem bolting it up. The last thing I can think of is the motor mounts.

yea i was just worried about the computer and wiriing harness. im gunna get a crate motor so where would i get the computer and wiring harness?

You might as well use the V8. They will both require the same amount of work and converting to the 4.0 radiator and hood and front hardware. Unless you have an AW4, you will have to convert the tranny too to handle the increased horsepower.

I agree if your going to spend all the money on the wiring harness and ecu plus the time putting it in you could get a carburated V -8 and have alot more power for the same price as just the motor

If the engine you get dosnt bolt right up to it im sure someone somewere makes an adapter plate for it.it should handle a couple hundred hp but I wouldnt go to much further without upgrading the tranny.even then its just one crossmember and two drive shafts
