Damn still there ! Comes on strong right at 65mph live able but now I'm on a quest to fix. I'm feeling something in the steering ever so slightly like a grinding or metal on metal? Gonna crawl under again tonight. Also pulling into a right hand turn (turning into driveway with a bump) I get some kind of metal contact in drivers side . Only happens in right hand turn. Almost sounds like front coil hitting or rubbing? Thoughts?

I had the same problem. I replaced the sway bar and drag link. No more shaking (death wobble).

Yes and it is much much better just with the tire balance.

So what all did you do to get rid of the shaking?

Default same problem at 65

I added a plate around the steering box. Had it welded and bolted. Didn't help a lick. Wheels have been balanced several times. Someone suggested the driveshaft is out of balance. I notice that about 2100rpm in drive the vibration starts, so I put it in 2nd gear and brought it to 2100 rpm and the shaking wasnt there. So I don't think it was the driveshaft.
Next I will have the tires road balanced. Hope that fixes it.

Wish I could help, but haver the same exact problem with my 97 XJ

My vibration was a bad shock. But I have seen worn out control arm bushings compound the problems.

well i give up for now. Just finished new shocks all around plus previous replacements. again feels like a vibration roar at 65 to70 not death wobble symptoms. Smooth as glass up to that speed. Still feels like bent rim or out of balance tire. Did it with old tires and new tires. rims seem fine and other than watching them on a machine what is best way to check to see if bent. I am officially stumped.

I think I found my problem. I went for a Hunter road force balancing and the tires and rims turned out to be acceptable, not out enough to make the car vibrate at 65+. When it was on the lift, the mechanic put the XJ in drive and found the driver's side rear axle was bent. You could see the wheel, brake drum both running out. Funny, when he test drove it with me, he said he thought it was in the rear. The cost to replace the axle and bearing is $450. I'm waiting til I can afford it.
