Hello,

I have recharged the refrigerant in my 1999 Jeep Cherokee and the gauge showed the refrigerant pressure is in the required level (pressure 40 and the gauge stayed in Blue zone). I bought this Cherokee in Dec 2012. Last summer, since I did't use the vehicle that much, I haven't recharged. So it was out of refrigerant for a long time!

My AC is putting cold air when I start driving. After 15 to 20 minutes, the cold air stops. When I turn the **** to regular air (Not AC) and turn it back on to AC mode, it starts putting cold air again. When outside temperature is too hot, this happens more frequently.

I read other threads in this forum that says removing a shim on the clutch assembly might work. It is a bit compicated job to work on the clutch assembly. When I use a screwdriver/hammer to tap one of the projected ends of the compressor/clutch assembly, the clutch will start engaging.

Few other threads in this forum suggested to change the low pressure cycling switch. Can a BAD (faulty) low pressure cycling switch cause the clutch work intermittently?

Any thoughts?

What kind of gauge did you use? if it was one that comes with the freon it can be reading wrong, They rarely read right. You may need to ad a bit more.

 

I used EZ Chill Measure and Charge Can with Inline Gauge (http://www.walmart.com/ip/EZ-Chill-M...Gauge/16930284). I have also used half from a 2nd can.

I am thinking of either taking it to Firestone Auto to do a AC check for $10 or just try changing the low presure switch for $20.

Which one would be a better bet?
