Recently bought a 4x4 aw4 off craigslist. Its out of a 1997 xj and Im planning to swap it into my 1999 2wd. I found something online that says I cant use a 97 aw4 in my 99 due to the computer not being able to accept the 97 speed sensor and some otger things thay would require me to shift the trans manually and apparently losing second gear entirely as a result. Can someone who has done or attempted this exact swap please shed some light on this before im over my head.

5-Speed

I did the swap in a 99 but a manual. The trans wont matter with the speed sensor. It goes in the transfer case and you will need to extend the wires. Mine came with the wrong one so I just used the one out of the 2wd trans. As for the other stuff on the trans, cant help you there. Im sure someone else will chime in.
