My third brake light is not working please help new to site any clue?

 

Did you check the bulb? If you've verified that its good, you need ground and 12V to complete the circuit. The socket should have ground always, but verify that it does. The other contact in the socket should get 12V when the brake is applied. Does it? If not, trace the wiring

On my '96 there is a T connector behind the interior panel on the driver's side in the rear...right behind my spare tire. More than likely there is a wire from there that goes up around the rear widow frame and into the hatch. It should be for the brake light, but there may be more wires if you have a rear wiper and/or rear defroster.

 

The whole thing is not getting 12v its hard to trace the wires is there a place thats more open to look at other than little holes speratically om the hatch

 

Remove the 4 philips screws from the floor plate
then remove the 2 screws from the passenger side cover behind the wheel well.
remove the cover and behind it should be the harness going up to the tail gate and brake lights.

I wish I could help more but I only know the location. I haven't actually had to repair the third brake light.

 

Fix is simple. Remove It!!

wow that sucks... I've never heard of someone being pulled over for a third brake light out...

 

Yea me neither except for me and to top it off they tell me hid headlights are illegal too

You have a loud exhaust or stereo?

 

Not the same cop but i do have a 40 series flowmaster and two 10s in the bac lol prob a whole buncha things pissin em off

 

I'm just asking because if you fix the light they will find something else to pull you over for...
